Frank Masyada Invents a Currency Sterilizer for the US government
The history of the Currency Sterilizer
In 1994 I was retained by Barnett Bank to develop a method to make U.S currency cleaner and flatter in order to accommodate the projected expansion of ATM machines throughout the banking system in an effort to reduce teller costs.
At that time ATM’S were not as accurate as they are today and if the currency notes were not clean or flat miscounts often resulted. In an effort to determine what parameters I would need to meet I contacted the CDC to see what type of contaminants I would have to deal with on paper currency.
I was directed to Dr. Gene Moss who was considered the leading expert in anti bacterial decontamination for the CDC.I was asked to gather paper currency from various points in the U.S and Dr. Moss’s team would evaluate these for pathogens. This became the first and only study to determine what exactly is on paper currency and was it dangerous.
The study took nearly thirteen months, and a system using ultraviolet light and a pressing roller system was designed. However, at that time Barnett had been bought out and the new management had little interest in moving froward with this project. We moved forward with other projects including the development of Thermal Cycling.
In 2002 at the height of the anthrax outbreak I was contacted by Dr. Moss who had been assigned to combat this outbreak and was asked if I had completed the original design of the currency cleaner. I informed him that I had but had not built it as yet because the bank had no further interest.
He asked me to proceed with the design and build as the U.S Government was concerned that anthrax would be spear throughout the country by contaminating paper currency and letting just pass through normal channels and spread throughout the nation.
I designed and built the worlds only currency sterilization unit, or for that matter the first unit of any kind that could destroy all pathogens on currency, on paper, in an envelope to a level of 99.999999% without using radiation and without any damage to the contents of the envelope.
I was told by a wide variety of highly regarded microbiologists that the only way to destroy patheons such as anthrax without the use of radiation was to use a auoclave at 269 degrees F, in a steam atmosphere for 29 minutes and that was bible.
To their amazement the sterilizer destroyed all pathogens in a envelope, on paper, on currency in very high volumes to a level 6 or higher in one minute and 20 seconds without steam and the product emerged from th machine clean and flat and crisp.
